Incarceration Injection
At Grace Amazing Hospital,
Penny Zillion’s a doc.
She helps in the infirmary
of a jail on the block.
Most times she’s faced with scrapes or bumps,
seldom much more than that.
But there was once an incident
that felt more like combat.
A prisoner became enraged
and injury seemed nigh.
The guards asked her to inject him
or they would give a try.
Penny is not an enforcer.
She will not stand for pain.
But if she helps or she does not,
will greater harm obtain?
Suppose Penny must choose:
- complain to the chief of police
- give the injection
- respect the prisoner and refuse to inject
- give the injection, least harmful option

Close Clinic
Mona Groan, emergency room!
The nurse with a clipboard called with a boom.
Fill out these papers. The doc will be in.
Better hustle now—write next of kin.
Hardly made it here, the pain’s so great.
To travel further might be too late.
Pain tears my eyes. I can barely see.
What’re these papers you’ve thrust before me?
One is about you: where you live and such.
The others, insurance: who pays how much.
We’re a private clinic. We need every dime.
Now hurry up, missy. There isn’t much time.
The pain I’ve got, but insurance—not.
If I cannot pay, will you send me away?
I’m ashamed, of course. I feel abashed.
Could you take my rings instead of the cash?
Suppose the nurse must choose:
- let Mona into the hospital anyway
- make Mona give her jewelry until she raises the money later
- have Mona go to another hospital
- take up a collection in the waiting room

Shocking Experiment
Wanda attends a large college,
but needs to earn some cash.
In their psych lab she helps them run
a test that’s known as “flash.”
The professor says give a shock
of just a small voltage.
It boosts the minds of those inside,
strapped to a metal cage.
For each answer that they get wrong,
the voltage goes up more.
But one man grabs at his chest,
and falls upon the floor.
Wanda assumed the test to be
designed as safe for all.
That’s why she went along with it,
yet knew the shocks weren’t small.
Suppose Wanda must choose:
- accept responsibility for the heart attack
- hold the professor responsible
- hold the college responsible
- deem the incident an unfortunate accident

Discount Druggist
Linda Hand, in the pharmacy,
enjoys her work enormously.
There’s a reason why she prefers
to work the front cash-registers.
When drug expense exceeds a plan,
“order online” whispers Ms Hand.
To some she gives leniency,
omitting all dispensing fees.
Linda works hard, she’s devoted,
and has the chance to be promoted.
No more to jockey equity,
no more to grant a pauper’s plea.
The job offer won’t be refused,
but would her actions be excused
if patron’s told what kept them loyal,
ate up profits more than a little.
Suppose Linda must choose:
- keep quiet, but talk to the pharmacist afterward
- advise customers so the pharmacist hears
- ‘accidentally’ forget the dispensing fee
- tell customers privately about better deals
